Fah Sakharet

In this ongoing personal typographical project, I aimed to capture the spirit of resilience in the face of adversity. Each name included in the project is a symbol of an individual’s triumph over challenges beyond their control, specifically the difficult repurcusions posed by the pandemic, including layoffs and the enduring mental effect of COVID-19.

Interestingly, these names are some of the most popular among the generation hit hardest by the recent economic downturn and a testament to their strength. I picked the top 5 male and female names from that generation's top 10.

The timeless Didot font choice symbolically mirrors our adaptability in tough times. The interwoven letters symbolize our unity and strength during trying moments, showcasing resilience and the beauty we discover amid chaos.

I started this creative journey without an agenda, just what I thought looked striking and interesting to me. It is merely a therapeutic outlet, bringing peace to my mind amid everyday uncertainties. 😊

Sweet Tooth, is a case study for a mobile app that connects consumers with local dessert restaurants specializing in international flavors. It aims to provide easy access to diverse and exotic dessert experiences within their cities. The study also examines the effectiveness of using Gen-AI for research. The final conclusion will also address the advantages and pitfalls of using AI.

Boba Me, a UI case study to enhance the buying experience for Boba tea in a local city. Designed for Mobile UI/UX design experience using Figma prototype with a focus on login and signup, shopping and check out experience as well as design checkout order history screens.

UX UI for Esquire sub-brands: The Big Black Book, Big Drinks Book, and Big Watch Book. This app was created to guide and ensure consistent creative brand guidelines throughout the Esquire family worldwide. It is accessible on iOS platforms and exclusively for the Art Directors of Esquire magazines international. A selection for the cover design is shown here.

I was the Design Director for Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia, based in Bangkok. The magazine launch was the largest international edition of T+L, which appeared monthly in 12 regional countries.

I conceptualized, planned, and art directed all regional covers and monthly fashion shoots in Southeast Asia. I commissioned and managed photographic assignments with international photographers such as Michael Yamashita and Steve McCurry and esteemed writers such as Pico Iyer.

As the Art Director at Hearst International Magazines, I designed covers for Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire and Cosmopolitan magazine international editions. Spin-off or sub-brands of Cosmpolitan include titles such as Shopping, Beauty & Style, and Body. These titles appeared in Cosmopolitan UK, the Middle East, Spain, and Mexico.

For the launch of the first-ever Cosmopolitan magazine targeting Latinas, I art directed the photoshoot for the magazine cover with actress Michelle Rodriguez.

For Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia, I conceptualized, produced and organized all regional covers and monthly fashion shoots in Southeast Asia. This included sourcing fashion photographers, stylists, hair and make-up artists and models, location scouting, and assisting with styling and photography on location. I art directed the shoots in various locations from The One And Only Resort, Maldives to the nightlife scene in Hong Kong. Photoshoots aboard the Orient Express, The Four Seasons Koh Samui, various islands in Thailand, the colonial town of Penang in Malaysia and around the old town of Hanoi in Vietnam.

For the Cosmpolitan international editions, I art directed shoots in New York.

I also art directed shoots in studio and on location for various magazines in London.

At Travel+Lesiure Southeast Asia, I was involved in advertising and marketing campaigns to promote brand awareness and grow new regional audiences specifically in Hong Kong and Singapore.

I was the Art Director for The Hollywood Reporter weekly magazine which focuses on Hollywood film, television, and entertainment news. Designed cover features, packages and lists. Created photo illustrations, charts and infographics for both digital and print. Commissioned illustrations weekly for front-of-the-book, special features and packages. Designed Award specials and standalone issues for the Oscars, Emmy, Golden Globe and Cannes Film Festival.

I was also the Art Director of the start-up magazine, Cosmopolitan For Latinas, a niche magazine launched in the US.

As co-founder and Creative Director of Fah+Mindo Photography Studio, I create still life images and fun stop motion animations with my husband and photographer, Mindo.

Liaised with publisher and sales staff of Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia on advertising campaigns; overseeing and execution of promotional material for the magazine, including media kit, house campaigns, advertising proposals and web site. Created various branded content to support the Travel+Leisure Southeast Asia brand.

Hearst Magazines International oversees and encompasses more than 300 editions and 240 websites worldwide. These publications include Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Town and Country and Good Housekeeping.

My role as the Art Director was to act as a Creative Brand Ambassador to these brands. I oversaw new launches and redesigns making sure each print and digital format adhered to the brands creative guidelines. This was done through the ever-evolving brand books and creative initiatives such as “Boot camps” where Art Directors met yearly to exchange ideas and share their knowledge.

I was also involved in brand immersions with visiting Editors-in-Chief and Creative Directors from Europe, Australia, Asia, South and Central America.

Genomics Platform Covid Scrapbook for The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard
Tasked with producing a keepsake scrapbook style photobook for dedicated individuals at Broad's Genomics Platform. They worked tirelessly since March 2020, processing millions of Covid PCR tests. As their contracts ended due to the pandemic tapering off, it was gifted to them as a token of gratitude. The book features lab photos, touching thank-you notes, and uses the institution's brand colors and fonts.

Bubbleissimo photography book examines modern men and their grooming obsession to facial hair, and how it personifies masculinity. I also art directed this photoshoot.

Art direction for this personal project with portrait photographer, Mindo Cikanavicius. This series appeared in online publications including The Guardian newspaper. It was also an Honorable Mention in the International Photography Awards in 2016.
